FROM THE PASTOR
Spending Time with Luke
Grace and Peace. I want to thank all of you who made this past Sunday such a special day as we connected in Christ together. Sunday school was successfully launched, we had our first Adult Forum, and we remembered together the events of September 11, 2001 at our liturgy and in a Park Ridge Memorial event at Community Church. We shared in a lovely brunch together. I could feel the Holy Spirit drawing us together.
Beginning this coming Sunday at 8:45, and for the next four Sundays, we will be spending time in the Gospel of Luke. We are in Series C of the lectionary, “the year of Luke,” and most of the Gospel readings are from that gospel. I am hoping that our deep dive into the Gospel together will help enrich our hearing God’s word when we worship.
This coming Sunday will be an introduction to Luke and Acts, the two part biography of Jesus and biography of the beginning of the church. We will note major themes in Luke’s Gospel, what makes this Gospel unique, and gain an overview of the outline of the gospel. I would encourage you to read the first chapter of Luke, especially the first four verses.
The following week we will look at the meals in the Gospel of Luke. It seems like Jesus and people were always eating in the Gospel. what can we learn from Jesus together at the table?
The following week we will study the parables of Jesus which are unique to the Gospel of Luke.
In the final week we will dig into the Passion of Jesus according to Luke. I look forward to being with you as we study God’s word together!
