Introducing…WOW: The Wonders of Worship
Dear church,
I’ve been dreaming about this project since I began interviewing with the call committee here at St. Luke’s and thanks to a partnership grant and support from the Nourishing Vocation with Children project at St. Olaf College, it is coming to fruition!!
Get ready to embark on a delightful journey through the heart of our worship traditions with our brand-new children’s sermon series, “Wonders of Worship!”
What is “Wonders of Worship”?
Each week, we’ll dive into a different aspect of our liturgy, uncovering the ‘why’ and ‘how’ behind the rituals we sometimes take for granted, as well as to make connections to the created world beyond the walls of the church. From making a sign of the cross to sharing the peace with one another, this series will open eyes and hearts to the beauty and significance of our worship. And the best part? It’s all delivered in a way that’s easy to understand, making it perfect for kids and adults alike!
Here’s what makes WOW special:
- A Musical Invitation: Each children’s sermon begins and ends with a brand-new music composition by our Director of Music, Anne Krentz Organ. This special piece calls the congregation to the moment, inviting our children to gather with the presiding minister at different places in the sanctuary.
- Exploring Worship Elements: Over the course of the program year, we will explore each element of our worship—from the prelude to the postlude—through child-focused messages that make the mysteries of our faith accessible and exciting.
- Liturgical Art Trading Cards: Every Sunday, the children will receive a high-quality liturgical art trading card that corresponds to that week’s message. These cards are more than just collectibles—they’re reminders of what we’ve learned, beautifully designed to inspire continued reflection at home and in worship for future years. The beautiful art has been commissioned from artist Vonda Drees.
- Connections Beyond Sunday: Miss a Sunday? No problem! Children can still receive their card by finding me and having a conversation about what they missed. It’s another chance to connect, ensuring that no one feels left out, even if they couldn’t be with us that week.
Why You Should Join Us
WOW isn’t just for the kids—it’s for the entire congregation. By participating, you’ll witness the joy and wonder that comes from seeing our youngest members engage with the worship experience. You’ll also be supporting a project that helps them discover their place in our faith community.
When Does It Start?
The WOW series kicks off Sunday, September 15th at the 10:45am service and we’d love for you to be part of it. Whether you’re a parent, a grandparent, or simply someone who believes in the power of imaginative, spirit-filled worship, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.
God’s peace,
Pastor Kyle
Let’s come together to celebrate the Wonders of Worship and see our faith come alive in new and vibrant ways.
